La Cresta Committee Volunteers Endorse Paul Gaarenstroom & Dave Lysengen!!
Dear Members of the La Cresta Property Owners Association,
We, the volunteers of LCPOA listed below, are writing you in support of Paul Gaarenstroom and Dave Lysengen in the upcoming election for the LCPOA Board of Directors.
Board elections are important to our community. The decisions made by our Board affect our roads, our trails, our drainage facilities, the financial stability of our Association, and our property values. We believe that Paul and Dave have the experience, judgment and integrity to help navigate the challenges ahead, and we encourage each of you to cast your votes accordingly.
Paul Gaarenstroom
Paul is currently our Association’s Secretary and Treasurer. In this role, Paul has helped guide the Board through complex financial matters while promoting accurate accounting, responsible budgeting, and transparent reporting.
Paul successfully founded a regional insurance brokerage firm in Orange County where he had to master business management, employee relations, client satisfaction and, in his words, the “art of compromise.” Prior to his business career, Paul served four years on the flight crew of a C-141B aircraft at McChord Air Force Base. That military service taught him “Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.”
In addition to his service to our Association, Paul serves on two other non-profit boards as a Vice President and as the Secretary. His past volunteer experience includes 12 years on hospital committees and, ultimately, the Board of Directors, for Providence Hospital, Vice President of Fundraising for Family Forward (securing housing stability for the less fortunate), and Board Vice President for the Mission Viejo Country Club.
Paul’s vision for our community includes:
Infrastructure excellence regarding our road and drainage facilities
Multi-purpose trail safety
Open, clear and transparent communication between the board and our residents
Upholding the Board’s fiduciary duty to provide adequate reserves, accurate budgeting, and financial risk management
Dave Lysengen
Dave is a proven business leader with 35 years of accounting, finance, marketing and governance experience, and will offer a fresh perspective to the Board on community issues. As a manager with the Automobile Club of Southern California, Dave led major project initiatives, managed multimillion dollar budgets, and provided leadership to his project teams. The Automobile Club, like our Association, is a membership organization that utilizes fees to provide benefits and services to its member base. Dave’s work experiences directly translate to his ability to successfully lead as a Board member.
Dave is also no stranger to volunteer activity. He is a current member of our Governing Documents Committee where he has become thoroughly familiar with our Articles of Incorporation, our Bylaws and our CC&Rs. In addition, Dave frequently participated in the Auto Club’s volunteer program called “The Club Cares,” which provided him the opportunity to support the Second Harvest Food Bank, the Ronald McDonald House, and the United Way. He further supports the efforts of his wife, Claudia Lysengen, in her role as the Chair of the LCPOA Communications Committee.
As a Board Member, Dave would be:
Committed to updating our governing documents
Ensuring fiscal responsibility of balanced budgets while maintaining appropriate reserves
Bringing transparency and decorum to Board interactions
Preserving our infrastructure (roads, culverts, and our multi-use trails).
Both Paul and Dave recognize and appreciate the countless hours our volunteers dedicate to keeping our community safe and beautiful. They understand that these activities keep members informed and engaged, and facilitate other contributions to our Association. Future community leaders are successfully trained through volunteer committee activities.
Both Paul and Dave care deeply about fire safety on the Plateau. They support investigating additional ingress and egress routes, adding heli-hydrants, increasing the number of “shelter-in-place” refuge points, and using technology to accelerate the flow of information. Together, these measures would strengthen our community’s preparedness in the event of a local fire.
Please join the undersigned LCPOA committee members* by casting one vote for Paul Gaarenstroom and one vote for Dave Lysengen. Together, we can continue to evolve, improve and preserve our special community.
Thank you for your vote in support of thoughtful leadership and the future of our Association.
